My Great Father

My father was a great man in all respects. His name was M.K.Venkataraman & he retired as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. So the three of us(my elder sister,my younger brother & myself ) grew up in Delhi. He gave us enough freedom to pursue our interests & we are thankful to him for what we are today
My mother & father were an ideal couple & enjoyed their lives to the maximum extent even after his retirement. My children & my nieces & nephews cherished their visits t o their grandparents' place. He came & settled in Chennai in 1983. In Chennai , he kept himself busy attending Thiruppugaz classes & visiting all relatives & friends regularly.
He suffered from Parkinsons disease from the year 1993 but was very active till 2002. For nearly 4 years he suffered a lot & he breathed his last on Nov' 17th 2006 at the age of 87. He was a gem of a man, liked by everybody & was a very very patient man. Though he lived a full life ,we,his children wish he hadn't suffered so much towards the end. We all miss you appa.
Chandra.

  1. I'm sad for your lostt Ma'am. I'm sure he is looking down from heavens on you and your family. A retired Lt. Col and a much traveled man wrote a post remembering his mother. I thought you may like it. Do let us know if you did. If you do like it there are some more short-stories on parenting that may appeal to you ..
